Families First News

Front page - Welcome

Welcome Message

Dear partners and colleagues,

As we approach the end of what has been the most challenging of years we are pleased to bring you yet another full edition of Families First News which we hope you will enjoying reading.

We would like to start by saying a big thank you to all those partners who very kindly contributed to the Children's Services appeal for gift vouchers for Care Leavers - a whooping £10,500 was raised in donations. The team hope to achieve £11,000 by the end of next week, meaning they will be able to provide £20 vouchers to all care leavers.

The Christmas period can be a stressful time for parents and so we have republished the information about the ‘Parenting Together’ programme, which can help parents where stress and conflict in their relationship is affecting their family.

We have also put together a Christmas support page which brings together some offers of support to families that we have been asked to promote.

Earlier in the year we adopted the Children's Services practice guidance for our Families First Partners. This has continued to be updated throughout the period as the situations changed and the latest version can be found on our Families First Portal.

As promised, we have continued to update our article on mental health and emotional wellbeing as well as our vacancy page and grants page on our portal. Please take a look and contribute to these pages where you can.

Of course, we couldn't issue a whole edition without mentioning Covid19, and as we are all aware Hertfordshire is currently in Tier 2 restrictions and you can keep up-to-date with service updates here. There are also some very good guides to support people during bereavement in these challenging times.

Finally, to help raise a smile, we thought we would share this video with you - The Hospice of St Francis in Berkhamsted have taken a classic Christmas song and worked with the local community to rework the words. Watch it at

Best wishes and Seasons Greetings!
